Adult Buoyancy Vests

All vests that are classified as a BUOYANCY VEST are vests that meet the NZ Safety requirements.

A Buoyancy Vest is the same as a Life Jacket, except a Life Jacket has a collar, and buoyancy vests do not. A vest with a collar is better in a ship wreck situation, however in greatly increases the risk of a broken neck when used in towed watersport activity where the risk of falling into water at speed is present. As such it is not recommended for Life Jackets to be used for towed watersport activity, but that Buoyancy vests are used.

NZ Safety requirements require vests exceed 53 neurons of buoyancy. US Coast Guard Approved requires vests exceed 71 neurons of buoyancy and is a higher standard than NZ Safety standards.

All vests in this Buoyancy Vest category are vests that exceed the NZ Safety requirement and can be used for many applications within inshore waters over and above towed watersports.
